The New Mixer Mill MM 400 |
The RETSCH Mixer Mill is a true all-rounder in the laboratory which can process almost anything:
The high-quality grinding jars with screw-top lid are available in 6 different materials and come in sizes from 1.5 ml to 50 ml. Accessories for the MM 400 include adapter racks which can be equipped with 5 or 10 reaction vials. |
Areas of Application |

Cryogenic Grinding The MM 400 is ideal for grinding samples under liquid nitrogen. It produces a completely homogenized sample after an average grinding time of 2-3 minutes. Only 1-2 minutes of external cooling of the sample inside the grinding jar is sufficient to embrittle the material which helps to keep the consumption of liquid nitrogen extremely low. |

Disruption of cells and tissues Special adapter racks are available which can be equipped with 10 disposable reaction vials each. Cell disruption is achieved through the impact and grinding effect of the grinding balls on the sample material. Due to its high grinding efficiency and low warming the MM 400 provides the maximum of disrupted cells with top-quality DNA or RNA for further processing. |

Sample Preparation for XRF Analysis The MM 400 achieves grind sizes down to 5 microns and is much more comfortable to operate then the more expensive disc mills, dish-and-puck mills or shatterboxes. If the sample is to be pressed into pellets, then the homogenization of sample material and wax can be carried out directly in a polystyrene grinding jar. |

Sample Preparation of Tablets and Capsules In contrast to conventional methods involving a mortar, solvent and ultrasound for extraction of the analytes, the complete grinding and extraction procedure only takes approx. 2 minutes in the MM 400. Moreover, the use of the same jar for grinding and extracting guarantees loss-free sample processing. |
